We provide a safe environment for survivors of abuse and poverty. We give these individuals the access to learn and further their education with the help of our tutoring volunteers, along with teaching basic life skills to those who need it, encouraging them along the way and building their self-esteem, so that one day they become independent.
The Sisters and other volunteers helped me to regain my self-worth,self-respect,
and self-dignity. Thank you for all you have done for me. They had helped this
alcoholic find her way back to being a productive member of society.
I was able to make a difference in my life by obtaining and achieving my GED through
pure perseverance and determination. Now I want every day of my life to be filled with
meaning and satisfaction, knowing that “People put up walls, not to keep others out,
But to see who cares enough to tear them down”.
When I finally got to the N.E. W. Life Center, I was welcomed and loved for who I was.
Sr. Judy asked: “Miss Jessie, is there anything I can do for you? Anything you need?”
I was not used to people being nice to me. They even offered me a job, sewing and making scrubs.
